Android/Google Maps: get distance of route travelled -

i'm looking way of improving accuracy of gps measurements of distance travelled (in car).

the easiest solution sum straight-line distance between every position reading returned gps. main problem see each sequential position reading reported gps can vary significant number of meters, report stationary car travelling around position randomly, potentially @ quite speed. (?) 1 knee-jerk alternative have position sampled if car appears have moved @ least distance of gps's minimum accuracy. not perfect either, not least because choosing value guess. large , if car needs follow tight weaving route of sorts, distance travelled under-reported. yet problem handling coming , going of gps signal , accuracy.

so, i'd happier solution builds on google's work. or else's, matter.

is there app can interface can collect data , return route travelled, (to best of ability?)

i'm guessing now, but, since google's navigation app can give directions, must pretty confident of road person's on, , route he's taking, , there must other apps well, deal problem?
